2012 Smarts Us Urban Concept Smart’s 2012 Latest Car
The derivative from the German automakers, Daimler AG, is the Smart – the car that is produced in France and Germany both. It was founded back in 1994, and has steadily made quite a name for itself in the world.
After the successful motor shows previously, Smart was all set to announce its For-Us urban pickup concept, in the Detroit Auto Show. But there was a slight change of plans and it resulted in Smart already unveiling quite a bit about their secret concept.
In the face of the mega pickups that we encounter today, the company has admitted that their “rule-breaker” concept is a little “tongue-in-cheek”. In spite of that fact, the For-Us is targeted to the “young and young-at-heart”, to those who have very active lives that attach importance to low emissions and taking up of road space.
If you are looking for a practical loading concept, preferably one which can fit in the bed of a typical pickup truck, this one is certainly not for you.
The pickup measures 354 X 1506 X 1701mm when one gets the length X weight X height dimensions. This two-seater concept is rather small. It sports an electrically powered tailboard that opens and retracts, it has a 900mm cargo area, which can hold and recharge two smart e-bikes, which has a built in docking station.
The For-Us has a 55 kW (75 hp) magneto-electric motor, the same one which has been used in the smart fortwo electric drive. This is able to produce 130 Nm (96 lb-ft) of torque. Maximum speed exceeds 120 km/h (75 mph) and the lithium-ion battery provided has a capacity of 17.6 kWh.
This new car concept is all set to make its into the world at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, to be held on the 12th of January, 2012.
