Designed for the 2025 revival of the LA Times Grand Prix, the Chaparral Volt uses advanced EREV propulsion, energy collection, generation and management system to create an entirely new category of racing – the eco-triathlon.

The Chaparral Volt collects and generates its own energy from three different clean, renewable and abundant California resources: Earth, Wind and Fire.

Earth (Geologic) Gravity and momentum-capture regeneration and aero-thermal resistance provide astounding levels of braking efficiency in addition to active energy regeneration.

Wind (Aero-Thermal) Building on the legendary Chaparral 2J, the Volt utilizes rear turbine extractors for power cell cooling, down force and (in reversed direction) a combination of aero-assist braking and energy regeneration.

Fire (Radiant Sunlight) Integrated thin-film PV panels for the racer’s body and team support unit takes advantage of Southern California’s most abundant resource, the sun, and converts it for use as the Chaparral Volt’s primary energy source.

BMW has designed a hydrogen powered salt flat racer based on the premise of Reuse (instead of recycle). This concept utilizes existing, ordinary, and mundane materials, such as old oil barrels and barbeque lids, as main components for the body and wheel discs. Friendly, whimsical and sustainable, the concept employs goldfish as “co-pilots” or “canaries-in-a-coal mine” to ensure that the vehicle is running clean emissions (if your fish get sick, you must be running “rich”). The wheels are gel-nylon for necessary flex, allowing tires to be airless and re-vulcanized or re-treaded.

Honda Racing Car’s

The concept car is designed to offer superb aerodynamic performance. The rear wing, which is positioned above the engine, makes for down-force over the rear axle that increases once the engine is up at operating temperature. In order to reduce the rotating drag, the side panel of the Indy Car Series makes the air go around the wheels. Proper attention has been paid to the driver’s safety. The guy behind the wheel is protected by a structure that draws inspiration from the shape of leaves.

The unit diffuses the energy of the collision and also helps in keeping the interior cockpit structure safe and sound. The rear spoiler keeps the rear tires firmly in contact with the track surface and also doubles as a noticeable billboard that might interest sponsors. Moreover, the stripe dividing the spoiler has a thermally sensitive material that changes color depending on engine temperature. This project was sponsored by Honda and the Indy Racing League.

The final projects of the Transportation Design students at Turin-based IED (istituto Europeo di Design), developed in partnership with BMW with the goal of creating a car for 2015 interpreting the language evolution and the brand’s philosophy.The concept is focused keeping in mind the modern needs, tastes and life style of an individual. All the cars designed in this project looks like toy cars. You cannot even imagine them running on roads in the real life. The reasons for which we think is the coolest car before we will present them in the following lines.

Many of you may think that we are talking about Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin or Audi R8, but neither one of these cars – we are talking about the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 – this is the coolest car in the world.

Bugatti Veyron is a big, luxurious car of a length of 4.47 m. Is the perfect combination between a racing design and high-powered performance.  It has very well balanced surfaces and a clear line structure; both of them give an impression of pure elegance. Don’t forget that this is a sports car and even if it is elegant the car remembers to tell us that is not a drive to a mall or go to shopping car through its bold proportions and the very big mid-engine that you can see beneath the chassis even if the car is at complete standstill. The high velocity of the car is due to number of factors, for example the adjustment of the downforce – this keeps the car on the road at high speed, it has a lightweight construction and special tires.

The car has 3 configuration modes for the optimum aerodynamics: first is the standard mode – this mode is for speeds up to 220km/h and because is not a very high speed the rear spoiler is retracted. The second one is the handling mode, this mode is used higher speed when the rear spoiler deploys and the nose of the car is pulled down. The last mode is for speeds that go beyond 375 km/h and it is called the top speed mode – in this mode the spoiler is aligned with the chassis and the front diffuser flaps are shut.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 is made by materials that have a big level of functionality and a low weight, for example you can find materials like: carbon, magnesium, aluminum and titanium in this car. The screws, the exhaust system and the piston rods are made o titanium and the valve caps are made of magnesium. The rear in made from a combination of aluminum, stainless steel and carbon.

The car has only 2 frontal airbags, but it doesn’t need others because at the crash tests, the car did a great job and passed all the international safety standards.

The car has 3 data buses: one is for the internal diagnostic system, one for the driveline and one for the convenience functions. The car also has a telemetry computer that is able to collect data from the car. Buggati has a GPS system that can help the driver to find the car anywhere in the world if the car is stolen. Has a built-in Bluetooth technology and also speech-control. The Bluetooth GPS system is controlled by a Bugatti PDA. All the data from the car’s systems is going to be displayed in the rearview mirror.
